distcc gig ethernet and jumbo frames

Anyone thought about using jumbo frames over a gig network. I was thinking maybe distcc could take advantage of this...I am wondering though if it is nic dependent....Just a random thought.

I don't know for sure, but i think that i read somewhere that not all gigabit nic's support jumbo frames...

In order to use jumbo frames you need to configure your switch to support jumbo frames on the various interfaces you'll wnat to use. Then configure your ether interface to use MTU 9000. If you have a managed switch I'd clear the counters at this point so you can tell if any errors are happening.

Generally jumbo frames only makes sense if you're moving a ton of traffic around with large files. distcc strikes me a needing to move a moderate amount of data in very short bursts so you might not see much of an increase.
