DAO or TAO for old computer?

Hi, i have a problem booting gentoo2004.2 from an old PII400Mhz.
ive used TAO till now, should i try DAO?
could the write speed have an effect on old computers?

if you have an ISO that takes up the whole disk, then you can try disk at once

older cdrom drives may have problems reading cds with more than one track..

though i think that the cdrom drive is broken^^
