Build openoffice-ximian-1.1.60 failed

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

Build openoffice-ximian-1.1.60 failed

Since I am new to Gentoo (1.5 months) I was reluctant at first to bring this up. However, after discussing this with several much more experienced users, they encouraged me to post it here, because they claim it is surely a bug.

I have tried unsuccessfully to build the latest (ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86") open-office-ximian:

By entering:

Code: Select all

ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge -pv --columns openoffice-ximian

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild  N    ] app-office/openoffice-ximian   [1.1.60]           +gnome +kde -ooo-kde
without the (p), after about 4 hours of compilation I was met with the message:

Code: Select all

reading file /var/tmp/portage/openoffice-ximian-1.1.60/temp/fileXWIWKZ .
reading file /var/tmp/portage/openoffice-ximian-1.1.60/temp/filek8H985 ...

My make.conf is as follows:

Code: Select all

# These settings were set by the catalyst build script that automatically built this stage
# Please consult /etc/make.conf.example for a more detailed example
CFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -fomit-frame-pointer"
CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"
USE="gtk gnome qt kde dvd alsa cdr samba truetype"

ALSA_CARDS="snd-ice1712"
which is the default for an Athlon-XP machine (mine is Barton). The only thing I have added, is the ALSA_CARDS entry as clearly stated in the Gentoo ALSA configuration guide.

I am using gentoo-dev-sources 2.6.5-r1 and the latest stable (non ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86") gcc + glibc.

If it is not a bug, but an error on my part, any help would be appreciated as to how to compile it successfully.

If it is indeed a bug, please pass it over to the parties involved.

In any case, any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your time.

First thing: is this reproducible, or a random error?

If it's reproducible, head over to bugs.gentoo.org and report it. I had a quick look, and couldn't see anything obviously related to this.

..shortly afterwards...

To be honest, I have not attempted to do the build a second time.

But then again, it was the first time a build failed to complete for the 1.5 months that I have been using Gentoo. I have successfully build many "unstable" packages so far, and I know that especially the OpenOffice builds are extremely "touchy" and "volatile".

Anyway, I will make a second attempt (most probably tonight) and if the same error occurs again, I will post it as a bug.

Thank you very much.

PS: Has anyone built this exact build on the same arch & sub-arch successfully so far?
