migrating /etc/passwd /etc/group

Hello.

I am sure this must have been addressed somewhere... but I cannot find any good documentation on the issue.

I am trying to add a new machine to the network, and I want to have all the users and all the groups with their corresponding uids and gids that exist on one of the older machines on the new machine.

Because of shadow files, I am assuming that I cannot simply copy /etc/passwd and /etc/group from one system to the other. Am I right?

How does one go about doing this?

I found this link . It seems copying is all you have to do

if you wanted an overly complicated way of doing this, use LDAP
