These forums are not the proper place to request packages. A lot of developers don't read them.
You need to go to http://bugs.gentoo.org and check to see that it hasn't already been requested. Also, you should look at some of the other requests for packages, to make sure you include all the relevant information.
From reading http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32929 , it seems that even as of 5-29-04 there still isn't a bug-free ebuild. What do you mean by "the request lies there for months"; you wouldn't want broken or buggy ebuilds to make it into Portage, would you? Feel free to contribute a working ebuild.
I undertand that you would like an ebuild for captive -but if you have been wating all this time to be able to use it -you are simply foolish. I installed it inside of 15 minutes. I agree on having captive and portage-I too would like to see an ebuild for it, but if you want to use it -it is dead simple to install and configure.....
Teedog makes a good point, try writing an ebuild yourself and submit it. Lots of examples in /usr/portage, and you might learn a thing or two. Depending on how motivated you are modifying an ebuild really isn't that hard.
And please, remember that the developers are volunteers who get no form of financial compensation for all the hard work they put into gentoo, and keeping it up to date and working. The polite thing to do would be to ask very nicely if a developer could write an ebuild.
I think part of it is that the standard LUFS packages don't work, so that needs to get resolved first. The current ebuild says to use lufis, but the command needed to run lufis has an option string well over a hundred characters long and the documentation is crappy.
