Mythtv 0.15 comes out tonight (may 26th 2004), lets get those ebuilds dont asap so we can get our program guide back, since its now using datadirect!

0.14 is quite broken until we get the updates!

Just bump the existing 0.14(-r1) ebuilds to 0.15, worked perfectly for me.

Great timing on the release, I'd just installed CVS about 5 minutes before it was released. :\

EDIT: Spoke too soon, mythmusic can't be simply bumped (and makes sense now that I think about it since it was recently redone). Everything else compiled properly though.

I am getting an erro when I try to compile .15 But, then again I am running an Opteron. It compiled fine with .14, but I guess one of the changes they did broke something. The error I am getting is:

Hi,

in the changelog I can read that there is a new interface for selecting music. Since i am not happy with the old interface where the whole playlist is in one scrollable listbox, I would like to see a screenshot or something before I go thru the mythtv installation.

Can anyone who got it running post a screenshot or a small description of how the new interface looks like?

Thx, Markus

If think the screenshot section at mythtv.org is updated with the new interface. But correct me if I'm wrong, but at least it looks a lot different than what I get to see. Which I find quite odd, because I run a CVS build from a few weeks ago...

The mythtv site still shows the old mythmusic. Heres a screenshot of the new mythmusic selector:

MythMusic playlist selector

It seems like a cross between the old selector, and the way most other mythtv selectors work.

All the other screens seem to be the same.

Just in case some of you are looking for a quick guide on how to upgrade to 0.15, I've updated my guide, http://wopr.yi.org/mythtv.html to show how to do this under Gentoo. See Appendix 3.

Enjoy

Thanks!!! That worked perfectly. I was beginning to sweat not having guide data. Does this mean that every few months we have to logon to zap2it and renew our accounts?

The word on the mailing lists is that every so often you'll have to fill out surveys to renew your subscription.

Fine with me, they do have to pay for the listings data we're using after all.

Hey all,

I have a bit of trouble with the straight .14 -> .15 copy of the ebuild. I'm getting:

Code: Select all

videoout_directfb.cpp: In member function `virtual bool
VideoOutputDirectfb::Init(int, int, float, long unsigned int, int, int, int,
   int, long unsigned int)':
videoout_directfb.cpp:340: `DSCAPS_DOUBLE' undeclared (first use this function)
Any ideas?

Thanks!

Ok, I found a patch on the myth mailing list, which fixes the compiler error. There appears to be a problem with directfb. Now, though, I'm getting:
  • root@nicknack mythtv # ebuild mythtv-0.15-r1.ebuild qmerge

What the hell is 'iteration over non-sequence'? Grr, I just want to get listings.

What kernels are you folks using with your mythtv installs? I'd like to use the latest gentoo-dev-sources, currently 2.6.5-r1, which I have used on all of my boxes. Very good kernel for me. However, I did have problems getting 0.14 to work a few months back, and it was suggested I use a vanilla kernel. I have a PVR-350, and its ivtv driver also wasn't ready for 2.6 at that time.

I am using a pvr250, dual 2.4ghz xeons with 1gb of memory with 2.6.5, and mythtv 0.15, working beautifully. IVTV version is 0.1.9.

I have also installed it on a Athlon XP 2600+ with 512mb ram with kernel 2.6.5, and mythtv 0.14, which I am going to upgrade to 0.15 soon. Everything else is the same.

I am very impressed on how easy it was to install mythtv after you get the pvr250 card working correctly with ivtv!

Hey drunkentiger, I noticed a minor typo in section 10 of your guide. Where it says
Now create the file .my.conf in the /root directory which contains the following text (replacing new-password with the password you created above):"
it should be .my.cnf. At least for me, putting the pw in .my.conf did not work, but below that line you chmod the .my.cnf file, and when I tried that it finally let me connect to mysql without entering a password.

figured i would make a post to help some people out who might experience similar problems.

i have a bt 878 tuner card and while following the instructions on the site seemed to work with the older version of alsa, i have found this is not the case with alsa 1.0.3 either using the modules with 2.4 or compiling in with 2.6
i have a SBlive card. (emu10k1)
and my tv tuner is a bt878 based tuner

bind-address = 192.168.0.5

to set the mixer up so that i have no audio sync problems, i had to mute line in and set it as capture as normal. this is where it gets weird. with it set up like normal i would hear the raw audio feed from the card, like it was routing line in out to the speakers directly and ignoring the capture setting. in order to get it to stop that i had to mute AC97 and then turn up AC97 capture volume, this volume is also controlled by the captur volume level. it took a bit to track this issue down and i just hope it helps someone else out there.

also, as this is a new install, with the newer version of mysql, i dont know what i was using before but i just compiled it a few days ago, in order to get remote frontends to connect you need to edit /etc/mysql/my.cnf on the backend server and change the line that says

Code: Select all

bind-address = 127.0.0.1
to say

Code: Select all

bind-address = IP_OF_INTERFACE_TO_BIND_TO
this will open up communication for you.

EDIT: gcasillo
i am doing this all using the gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.5-r1 ;)
and i like this kernel a lot as well

What ivtv version are you using? I'm been trying to get ivtv to work with the latest versions of ivtv available here: http://kmos.org/~ckennedy/ivtv/. I've only been able to get lirc working in gentoo-dev-soruces-2.6.5-r1. However, there is an "error running install command" for ivtv, hence I get no /dev/video0.

Thanks!

Is there any way to make ivtv change channels faster? Some sorta hack any of you know about? I realize it has to wait for buffers and all that, but on a windows system its faster.

I've only had my MythTV/HTPC box up and running for a couple of days now, but so far so good. I am using gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.5-r1, ivtv 0.1.9 with a patch (mentioned in the next paragraph), and MythTV 0.15. I haven't got my remote working with LIRC yet, but I haven't tried to either. DataDirect listings are nice!

I simply downloaded the 0.1.9 tarball for ivtv from the sourceforge page and grabbed this patch:

https://www.lison.com/ivtv.patches/ivtv-0.1.9-2.6-3-20040206.diff

I ungzipped and untarred the ivtv tarball, patched the source (patch -p0 <ivtv...), chdir'd to the ivtv/drivers subdirectory, moved Makefile2.6 to Makefile, make, and make install. Tweaked the modules file in /etc/modules.d/ivtv and loaded the ivtv module. All good.

Incidentally, I'm having problems doing this on another box at work. I'm giving the ivtv ebuild, ivtv-0.1.9-r3, a go. I couldn't compile ivtv from the patched 0.1.9 source like I did at home. Hrrmmm...

As for changing channels, yeah, it takes a while and is annoying...at first. Then you change your viewing habits. Rather than rifling through channels aimlessly, you learn to browse the channels using up/down arrows. The OSD should come up and show you channel #, program, and a short description. Once you find something that sounds interesting, then you select that channel and actually change it. Makes for a more sublime viewing experience if you ask me. Just select the option related to "browsing" channels somewhere in the setup menus.
