hi
after switching to xorg i've noticed, that quite often tvtime won't start and produces such output:
Code: | bash-2.05b$ tvtime
Running tvtime 0.9.12.
rtctimer: Cannot open /dev/rtc: Brak dostępu
rtctimer: Cannot open /dev/misc/rtc: Brak dostępu
Enhanced Real Time Clock support in your kernel is necessary for
smooth video. We strongly recommend that you load the 'rtc' kernel
module before starting tvtime, and make sure that your user has
access to the device file (/dev/rtc or /dev/misc/rtc). See our
support page at http://tvtime.net/ for more information.
Reading configuration from /etc/tvtime/tvtime.xml
Reading configuration from /home/tomasz/.tvtime/tvtime.xml
Cannot allocate enough off-screen video memory. This may be fixed by:
1. Closing or restarting large X applications.
2. Lowering the input width of tvtime (--inputwidth parameter).
3. Lowering your colour depth or highest configured resolution.
4. Increasing the amount of video memory in your X config file
(for example, if you are using the i810 XFree86 driver.)
See http://tvtime.net/ for more information.

Can something be done about it? in the xorg sticky someone stated similar problem (regarding memory), but there was no response...
RTC issue - i guess this problem existed earlier, but i wasn't aware of it... i've already tried this:
Code: | echo 1024 > /proc/sys/dev/rtc/max-user-freq |
and this:
Code: | echo dev.rtc.max-user-freq=1024 >> /etc/sysctl.conf |
(following https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=160201&highlight=tvtime+rtc
instructions) - no success...
problem does not exist when tvtime is started by root; 'Brak dostępu' means 'access denied'
i would appreciate any suggestions
development-sources 2.6.5
and btw, does anyone know what can be responsible for image and sound distortion of tvtime output? maybe i forgot to compile something into the kernel? the weird thing is, that these seem to be greatly diminished when underclocking the cpu, e.g. while AthlonXP1700+ operates @1100Mhz... |

We're working on that in https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?p=1107251. I'm getting similar errors.
Damn, I should have searched better. I thought I had found no thread concerning the problem and started a new one _________________ ICQ #81510866 - http://the-gay-bar.com - MSN tante@emptiness.de

I have had the same problem when switch over to xorg. But I have not run into this problem with xorg and mythtv. So far so good! Might want to take a look. |

Code: | bash-2.05b$ mythtv

You probably should modify the Master Server settings
in the setup program and set the proper IP address.

i don't even know where to look for these settings; i guess it's time for some kind of how-to... |
