also, linux-wlan drivers

Having problems with the Gentoo Handbook? If you're still working your way through it, or just need some info before you start your install, this is the place. All other questions go elsewhere.

I apologize for not reading up more before posting. I just was itchin to post. I know how it gets annoying when people consistently ask the same questions. On another topic all together. Anyone have any luck setting up the linux-wlan prism2 drivers? How does the presence of the wlan-ng script affect the existing gentoo scripts? (pcmcia, net.eth0, etc.) It seems to find the device but it does not set the ESSID correctly. Also, the device comes up as wlan0, not as eth0.

I case you were setting your ESSID in /etc/pcmcia/wireless.opts, you should have looked into /etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng.opts and the "INFRASTRUCTURE STATION". DesiredSSID is what you are looking for.

About rc-scripts. I don't have anything good to say about them with linux-wlan drivers. Sometimes the just don't shut the card down properly, for some reason. I personally had to unmerge pcmcia-cs and build&install it and its own rc-script myself. It's working much better that way now.
