Still need help with Gentoo, and your question doesn't fit in the above forums? Here is your last bastion of hope.

Ok so I'm thinking of getting a Linux powered PDA. (As soon as they make the Zaurus SL-C860 with built in wireless.) So anyway here's the stupid question. I'm running KDE and I want to take the info off my Gentoo iBook box and slap it on the PDA is everything going to work perfectly?

The easiest way to sync (I have an SL-5500) is with Qtopia Desktop. You can emerge qtopia-desktop-bin if you want to check it out ahead of time.

The main issue for me was that it only supports syncing with certain apps, and the ones I use aren't among them. Maybe you'll be luckier, give it a look.

There are some programs/scripts that allow much better syncing than Qtopia Desktop provides. Sorry that I can't name it, but I'm pretty sure there is one in portage that supports syncing the Zaurus (and other PDA's) with various programs, including evolution.

BTW, I dont' think qtopia desktop works on an iBook.. I'm pretty sure it's x86 only. ;)

To the original poster:
I don't know exactly what you are asking, but I know it's possible to do syncing and transfering files between a Zaurus and an iBook running linux. It's possible it might take a bit more setup than if using a PC, but no worse than any other PDA in linux (probably easier than most)

Hopefully that answers your questions :)

if you use gnome, multisync works great for syncing with a linux pda. If you use KDE like me, you are a bit out of luck until kitchensync is done, which is supposed to be in kde 3.3

Thanks everyone :D

Sorry I did type that around 4am when I was at work so it made sence then, :) I guess I have to wait till kitchensync is done. But it's all good because I don't plan to but the PDA soon.

Im sure you know by now but that 860 dosnt come with built in wifi that is only on the 6000 series.

im trying to make the decision between the clamshells and the 6000 atm its hard to wait for the next revision of the clams just hoping for built in wifi and bluetooth then again i dont want to get the 860 right now and then be bummed in a few months if built in wifi comes out in a new model

I've tried them all, can not get anything to sync with my 860, networking works fine can shell into the pda over usb etc :-(

qtopiadesktop, doesn't give me the option to sync the menu option remain greyed out.
mutlisync, appears to work but neither Zaurus nore Opie/Zarus options work with sftp or ftp
The evolution-sync.pl script doesn't work scp not found, as far as am aware the 860 doesnt offer ftp service by default and I suspect that the data files that the script is looking for aren't there its written more for the Zarus 5500
Waiting for kitchensync to finish compiling but I am not hopeful!

It seems crazy that the Zaurus is a native Linux machine and yet I can't sync it with my main Linux machine !!

This person probably got this resolved, but for anyone else searching the archives there is the kde pim pi. It can sync the with kdepims through ssh.
