alsa (maybe xmms) problems on amd64

when changing volume or pan (or anything that has to do with the mixer) using the alsa output plugin in xmms, it segfaults.
I have compiled in alsas oss emulation and when I use that as output in xmms I can't change the volume... unless I let it controll the master volume instead of PCM. then it works.

I also noticed that the alsamixer act really weird.
this could be xmms fault, but it feels like the alsa mixer is not working..

btw.. it is a soundblaster live.

I initially had an error of permission denied when trying to change the volume, but when I corrected that it just doesn't do anything when I change the volume in XMMS. And I constantly get errors from XMMS. But it's still playing so I am not too concerned for the time,

 I did an emerge -o xmms and downloaded the latest xmms. It works fine for me. I'm also using an audigy instead of the onboard so that could be it.

My only problem, although very minor, is that when I enable and then disable the opengl plugin it segfaults.

Note: one time xfce did something to my alsa levels it made so that if I had the volume any higher the 75 it would sound all blown out and I fixed it by amixer set Master/PCM 0 mute and then amixer set Master/PCM 100 unmute.

Hope fully this helps

I think this is a alsa error. xmms segfaults, totem segfaults and alot of other apps segfaults when i alter the mixer settings.
and as I said, the alsamixer acts really weird! sometimes(?) I get sound only when I set sertain mixel levels to <mute>, and when changing the main volume it doesen't effect the volume. etc. etc.
i'm very new to the linux world and I have never posted a bug before. So it would be nice if someone did this. I'm quite certain it is a alsa bug.
I assume that the bug should be posted to the alsa-team.

I could mention that I have compiled a pure 32bit system for my amd64 (no emulation, 100% native) and the problem is still there.

kernel: 2.6.3
hw: sb live!, amd64, VIA K8T Neo-FIS2R.
