What should it be??

I recently just got my new AMD 64 system and for the most part I've had little trouble with getting it setup and running. A few minor X issues which were resolved rather quickly.
The system specs I have currently are as follows..
AMD 64 +3200
MSI-Neo-FIS2R
512 MB Ram
GeForce FX 5200 /w 128MB
Adaptec 2940 au
2 9 gb 10k scsi drives
2 18 gb 10k scsi drives

Now the system I had prior to this was a P3 600 with 512MB ram and a TNT2 Ultra 32/mb card, which served me well for years.
My question is this because of the huge difference in the systems how can I judge if I am getting optimal performance out of the new system?

While that is hard to quantify, have a look at this thread http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=144492

It might cast a bit of light, keep in mind there are many variables that improve or degrade performance, the quest for optimum is never ending...

Ah thank you for the refrence thread.
I understand it is hard to quantify so really all I am looking for is a ball park figure to see if I am in range...
