how to report compile errors best?

Often compile errors are caused by hardware, overclocking and other user related misconfiguration, so what would be good guidelines to follow before reporting a compile error? and what information is needed when reporting a compile error? (make.conf values, the compile log, env settings?, what else?)

Also, is there a way to send in bug reports via a script/program so that you are not required to open web browser, login, etc..?

Try searching/post here first, since likely you are not the only one with the problem. Otherwise submit a bug to http://bugs.gentoo.org/.

Either way, include at least the output of "emerge info".
