The current version as of today is 25.2.7.2-r1. Even the binary version is newer (25.8.4). I don't have any issues building it, but maybe the devs should consider committing a newer version in portage. Is there a reason to keep such an old (unsupported from upstream) release?

It's just a lot of time to test and keep up with upstream changes and not enough volunteers to help maintain it. [bug=961849]bug 961849[/bug] tracks it. You're free to do it in a local repository.
It's easy for the binary version to be newer because it requires far less work to test and keep its dependencies and such accurate.

Ok, I'll try to help by testing the ebuilds posted in that bug.
