Endless authentication loop (sddm)

Hello

since the latest system update I cannot start plasma. I get to the sddm authentication screen, my password is accepted, and a few seconds later I'm asked the pasword again. This goes endless.

I can switch to a tty terminal, where I can login without problems. If I run startx, I get to a GUI like system, but it is not plasma.

I did yet another system update, but it doesn't help.

What can I try?

That may be Plasma (kwin probably or plasma-workspace) crashing rather than an authentication problem. Is this OpenRC or systemd? Could you try digging for some logs?

It is OpenRC.

I will search for logs. I'm not acustomed to have trouble, so I do not know where to look.

I just had something similar, the window manager was crashing due to "missing private symbol" in some library. Had to recompile it to make them speak the same language again.

Found it out by trying to start my DE from terminal instead of going through display-manager, which allowed me to actually see the errors.

I'm confused, because, after a reboot, the errors are gone (https://bpa.st/TGYQ). But plasma does not start.

I want to continue using kde-plasma. I assumed, probably wrong, that X is the underlying layer.

Could you please help me finding the relevant log files? Or how to generate them? Thanks in advance.

Hm, works it without the old x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel driver?

The latest system update solved the problem.
It included an update of kwin and of plasma-workspace.
