A purely systemd free install from the getgo

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

Hello all! (or world!)

I'm new to gentoo and would like to install OpenRC with IceWM and JACK (no pipewire) and CENI with WPA Suplicant (if WPA Supplicant can do without CENI, so be it) for network stuff

I tried installing gentoo once but accidentally downloaded a lot of unneeded files and got an installation bigger than AntiX; how do I set up my useflags properly for that?

I don't know AntiX, but Gentoo does have some stuff that is unnecessary pretty much everywhere else: the toolchain, the headers, the portage tree, and maybe even kernel sources. They take considerable space, and you simply can't not have them on a Gentoo system. However, since it is Gentoo, you can get quite creative with compression. Obviously, this is entirely non-standard, so making it work is entirely up to you.

Regarding your use flags, after extracting stage3 set your profile of choice and start installing stuff you want, and only enable additional use flags when you do actually know you need them, or emerge requires it to proceed.

As you start fresh and new with Gentoo, please start with our handbook.
Don't overthink it and work in steps. Get familiar with it and then decide what you need and which useflags make sense.
