emerge causing segmentation fault

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

emerge causing segmentation fault

Hi All:

This is a new one for me:
jserinki7 /home/jserink/temp # emerge -uDp world

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies \Segmentation fault emerge -uDp world

Emerge --sync works but if i try emerge portage, its the same:
jserinki7 /home/jserink/temp # emerge portage
Calculating dependencies \Segmentation fault emerge portage

Any suggestions?

Cheers,
John

Please provide the complete output, if this isn't everything.
Also provide the output of emerge --info

Hi All:

After that seg fault....closed brave, it would not start again. Closed Chrome, same.
ps had normal output.
ps -elf output nothing. Very strange.
Closed everything and restarted....
Everything is fine now. Haven't a clue what went bad there.

Cheers,
John

That sounds to me like a critical library suffered a bit flip in RAM, rendering it unusable for anything that tried to call that function. Rebooting discarded the bad page and loaded a clean copy from disk.

You aren't running it in a VM or other software limited environment?
If not, it could be time to check your RAM if this happens again (Well, technically this can also be the case, bad RAM, in a VM environment)
