Hello,
Hope you are doing well. I've used Gentoo for many years starting from 2017 and onwards, unfortunately due to work and related stuff had to quit for a while.
Would like some suggestions related to hardware for running Gentoo as a lot of you here may have good knowledge regarding that.
First of all, with the rise of AI & gpu innovations, the Linux OS is not the same as it used to be, there's OS emulation and other stuff that reduces the overall quality offered by linux, which used to make it a great choice.
So ideally, the hardware has to be clean, with integrated gpu and less powerful/traditional cpu combinations.
1) A lot of people recommend Lenovo T400 series or something along the lines, what do you guys think about those type of hardware. Is it a good idea?
2) How about Chromebooks, have you guys flashed and used linux? Do they work well?
3) Any single board pc suggestions? Even Raspberry pi 4 and latest models come with integrated AI + GPU + wifi all in a single chip, so I'm not sure if it's a good idea.
4) What about desktops? Any motherboard + cpu suggestions?
Let me know what you think. I've been using Acer aspire lite 15 series for a while, they do work ok with Kali Linux / Ubuntu distros, but it's not the same Linux experience.
As I'm a software developer, for coding and stuff, the OS gets compromized a lot even through I'm using a live linux OS, and there were a lot of times where code base kept on getting downgraded to earlier versions.
The security issues can be mostly attributed to a combination of poor network and unsuitable hardware, maybe even backdoored live CDs.
Anyway, let me know you think. I've contributed a lot of code to OSS in the past, your suggestions here can definitely make a big difference in my life.
Thanks!
