[SOLVED] The system will suspend now!

Kernel not recognizing your hardware? Problems with power management or PCMCIA? What hardware is compatible with Gentoo? See here. (Only for kernels supported by Gentoo.)

[SOLVED] The system will suspend now!

During update I notice, one of my systems (to which I'm logged in over ssh) going into suspend mode.
During compiling, after an hour or so I see message:

Code: Select all

Broadcast message from fd@amd_ma (Mon 2025-11-17 16:06:23 MST):

The system will suspend now!
I have to hit space bar to awake the system to continue compiling.
What is causing it?

In /etc/elogind/logind.conf I have:

Code: Select all

IdleAction=ignore
IdleActionSec=0
HandleLidSwitch=ignore
HandleLidSwitchExternalPower=ignore

Use elogind-inhibit to inhibit sleep. I have a script that inhibits sleep based on loadaverage, ssh connections to/from the computer, and open Virtualbox VM (that does not like having the host go to sleep on it...).

man elogind-inhibit is your friend 8)

Another way is simply disable "Suspend to RAM" in the kernel configuration:

Code: Select all

Power management and ACPI options --->
    [ ] Suspend to RAM and standby

On my others system I have this option enabled and the computer does not go to sleep.

Code: Select all

  [*] Suspend to RAM and standby

It depends which WM or DE you have installed ... 8) ... if there is nobody which activates the suspend then it will not suspend (I only know KDE; so I cannot help how to deactivate it in other Desktops; My addition was just the sledgehammer method if you don't know how to disable it otherwise.).
