Hi folks,
I was taking a look at the Gentoo wiki and stumbled upon sys-kernel/gentoo-kernel.
It's been a while since I last updated my gentoo-sources configuration (I'm still on linux-6.1.132-gentoo). With the end of the semester approaching, I have little to no time to spend updating my configurations to the newest available sources (linux-6.12.41-gentoo).
My current .config is almost there, but I'm no expert, so my configuration isn't perfect. I have this ongoing issue where every time I enable Bluetooth, my system fails to resume from suspend correctly. I'm also getting tired of starting from scratch with my gentoo-sources configuration for every major kernel update. I know there are ways to migrate old configs to new versions, but my experience with it hasn't been the best.
So I was considering moving away from sources and starting to use something like gentoo-kernel-bin. That's when I discovered the gentoo-kernel.
I'm wondering if someone here uses the gentoo-kernel and have some tips on how to proceed. I currently using Pietinger's Boot kernel via UEFI. Is it possible to boot the gentoo-kernel using this method or must I use other boot alternative as Grub, LILO or Refind?
Don't get me wrong, I really like spending time configuring gentoo-sources and trying things - I just don't usually have the time to tinker much, and I don't like keeping my system outdated.
I stumbled this reddit post and the commentary of the schmerg-uk seems to be something pretty practical for the day-to-day use. I'm just not sure how to proceed. Anyone here uses this? Could you help me?
The wiki page doesn't clarify much what a newbies should do.
