Any idea on howto fix this?

I see in zugaina search that there is a much newer version in the ace overlay (0.9.20). Maybe I should try that ebuild? On the other hand dilfridge is what is mentioned in the wiki when searching for access a gentoo vm via ms rdp protocol.

Edit to add, that the ebuild from the ace repository compiles fine

As written above I workarounded it by emerging xorgxrdp from the ace overlay. Lokal gui login in hypervisor console is working, but when I connect via rdp, I get the loginmask of xrdp but then an error stating it couldnt create a session as X Server could not be started.

Following the xrdp-sesmanager.log and the xrdp.log.

Thanks in advance for a hint what could be missing. I have an older instance of gentoo running successfully and tried copying xrdp.ini sesman.ini in /etc/xrdp and also /etc/X11/xrdp/xorg.conf.

On the old instance the dilfridge version of xorgsrdp ebuild compiled successfully. I try to update those older installs too now, to see if I can reproduce the build failure and the login failure.

By try and error I found a working solution. I installed the xrdp-0.9.23.1 version of the dilfridge overlay, not the newest one. That way it works. Then to successfully start a gnome session I removed everything from startwm.sh and only put a oneliner:
