Question about postgresql server upgrade

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

Question about postgresql server upgrade

Post by pascalin » Mon Nov 27, 2023 11:47 am

Hello,

I am new administering a postgresql server in Gentoo, and I am following the steps from the Quickstart guide to upgrade from dev-db/postgresql-15.4 to dev-db/postgresql-16.1

However, when calling eselect to choose 16.1 as the default version I get this output:

Code: Select all

~ # eselect postgresql list
Available PostgreSQL Slots
  15 * 15.4
  16 16.1 (Clients Only)
However, I checked dev-db/postgresql USE flags, and they include 'server', so I don't know if it is safe to proceed, or what I could have missed.

Thank you for your help!

Hello pascalin,

you can proceed. I noticed the same, but the server is there:

Code: Select all

~ # eselect postgresql list
Available PostgreSQL Slots
  16 * 16.1 (Clients Only)
~ # pg_isready
/run/postgresql:5432 - accepting connections
~ # pg_isready --host=localhost
localhost:5432 - accepting connections
Best Regards,
Holger

Thank you Holger, will do.

If it is a bug, I think I will report it, if no one else has done it already.

All the best.
