Software for old laptop

Not sure what forum this should go in...

I have a p100 laptop with 40MB of RAM and want to decide what to install.
Is Fluxbox more resource intensive than Blackbox?
I'm wondering if these apps would run okay:
Abiword 2
Gnumeric
GIMP, Sodipodi / Inkscape (not looking to do graphics, but useful if I have to edit anything)
MozillaFirebird

These are the other apps I'm looking for:
scientic calculator
dictionary

Thanks,
Thien

They could be slow... but Abiword and Gimp should both work (I would imagine Gimp would be noticably slow though ;) )
I'd recommend grabbing another webbrowser though... Links (with the -g option) actually works very well and is very fast, Opera is another good choice (although commercial)
For a dictionary... Why would you need anything other than the good old command line dict program? ;)
I find myself using wine+VirtualTI for my scientific calculator needs, so if that's not an option for you I hope others post good sci calcs for linux.

I don't know about the other stuff you've mentioned.

Ah, I did not know of dict. I'll give that a try.
Thinking about it some more, I don't need a full scientific calculator, ala a TI-89, cause I have one! Actually what I'd like on the laptop is a simple calculator that can do the basic functions (trig, log, exponential, ...) and store more than one number, like the GNOME Calculator.
