Remote Headless Pi Desktop?

How are you getting a remote desktop from your headless Pi in Gentoo?

Enable XDMCP on headless-pi's display manager.

On Desktop use

Xephyr -query headliess-pi -screen 1270x990 -br -reset -terminate :1

I have been using tigervnc on the Pi for the server and RealVNC's viewer on other OSes for the clients. I was wondering what the best way forward might be.
