Help with creation, editing, or playback of sounds, images, or video. Amarok, audacious, mplayer, grip, cdparanoia and anything else that makes a sound or plays a video.
I'm thinking about adding a TV tuner card to my Gentoo system. I'm not sure
what type or brand to get for a linux system. Any Ideas Also I plan to watch
TV and maybe even record some shows too, like a Tivo... Any info on the subject
would be helpful. LATER ....
I have hauppauge's wintv pci card and it works pretty well. Allthough I don't use it much anymore because the quality of sound & video is poor in analog tv broadcast. So I would recommend you would think about buying a dvb card. See http://www.linuxtv.org
I've used a Hauppauge PVR 250 with great success for the last 6 months. I was so pleased I bought one for my father and we now both use them with MythTV 0.12 for TV watching and recording. I will say though that due to the active state of development on the PVR driver you do have to be comfortable compiling from source. I have to help my father out from time to time keeping his system working well.
You might want to start by picking a PVR application and then check the mailing list for that application about which cards it works with best. I settled on the PVR250 because it can record shows while I'm working and I barely notice it.
If one was to attempt to broadcast tv over a network (mythtv should do this i think, im not sure what else) how much bandwidth do you think one would need?
