There's the Handbook for that.rainy wrote:Hi

easy to install, like ubuntu or debian

please guide me .

It's very in vogue nowadays to namedrop all the distros you've tried and post your screenshots online. Gentoo has the reputation, from what I gather, or being difficult or something. This brings tourists. Flexibility and freedom come at a price, but I only find it difficult when I'm too tired to read and too impatient to pay attention to what I'm doing. The last distro I tried was Slackware, shortly before I started using Gentoo. I haven't even touched another distro since then and actually know squat about other package management systems, etc.figueroa wrote:Good answers, but maybe the OP's question belongs in the dustbin. How did one get as far as the forums and not understand the most basic thing about Gentoo?

Scary ... then its all built with -mtune=generic, so it will run anywhere, or maybe its -march=native ...GentooX is an -O3, Graphite, and LTO optimized x86_64 LiveCD Gentoo distribution with installer.

Unfortunately you see a lot of this on YouTube. Someone will create some kind of video on Gentoo and the comments will be filled with questions like "Where do I get it from?" and "How do I install it?"dalto wrote:This post seems to have outlived the OPs interest![]()
That being said, if the OP were still here, I would ask why they want to use gentoo in the first place. Maybe that would help use provide a better explanation of their options.

You will likely hear as many definitions as people you ask. Gentoo is as much a framework and a toolkit for building your own distribution as it is a distribution in the classical sense.rainy wrote:I have heard many definitions of this distribution
That depends how you define "easy".rainy wrote:Is there a way to easily install it ?
That depends which graphical environment you decide to install. Most of the installation and setup happens at the CLI, choosing a GUI (or not) is up to you.rainy wrote:What is wrong with the graphical environment ?

Follow the handbook. That is easy.rainy wrote:I have heard many definitions of this distribution
I told myself I had to try it
Is there a way to easily install it ?
Well, I have to ask this question here, right ?
**********
Should Gentoo finally be installed or not ? now either with a command line or a light graphical environment
Can you tell me , What is wrong with the graphical environment ?
Listen to Neddy ... but only after your first installation you will understand what it is.rainy wrote:I have heard many definitions of this distribution
No.rainy wrote:Is there a way to easily install it ?
For a Gentoo installation you need two things: 1. Time and 2. Knowledge ... but ... you should be able to learn everything ... if you want. So, Knowledge = again "Time" ... and "willingness".rainy wrote:Should Gentoo finally be installed or not ?
Nothing. Install KDE or GNOME or whatever you want.rainy wrote:Can you tell me , What is wrong with the graphical environment ?
Do you have time and willingness ? Yes ? Go on !rainy wrote:I told myself I had to try it
