Portage not listing all updates[SOLVED]

  • Quote

Post by EasterParade » Sun Aug 13, 2017 9:29 am

This has been an issue for quite some time and now I'd like to fix it if it's possible.
May be I forgot to update config files for portage when I set up this system back in the days.
When eix-sync has finished emerge - UDNav world does not list all packages to update.
I have to manually type the majority of packages that portage should compile.
Like so:

Code: Select all

Performing Global Updates
(Could take a couple of minutes if you have a lot of binary packages.)
  .='update pass'  *='binary update'  #='/var/db update'  @='/var/db move'
  s='/var/db SLOT move' %='binary move' S='binary SLOT move'
  p='update /etc/portage/package.*'
/usr/portage/profiles/updates/3Q-2017..............................................

Action: sync for repo: gentoo, returned code = 0

Total: 9 packages (3 upgrades, 1 new, 5 reinstalls), Size of downloads: 1.860 KiB

Would you like to merge these packages? [Yes/No]
Any suggestion about the reason for this behaviour and how it can be fixed?

Thanks

Plasma-meta is registered.
It 's not only KDE packages that portage does not list but also others,
like nvidia-drivers.
I don't think the reason lies with the kind of package.

Perhaps I misunderstand you.

Please try it with the emerge
--update (-u)
option.
You using
--changed-use (-U)
and
--newuse (-N)
on the same command, I think you need --update (-u) not --changed-use (-U)

Example:

Code: Select all

emerge -avuDN @world
should work.

My bad ... although I remember having tried the correct command these last 10 months as well with the same poor result.

But I'll see next time - may take a short while until there're updates ( this is a stable system; no keyworded packages )

Thank you for pointing me at this dumb mistake.

I apologize for digging up an old thread that I have marked as solved already
but here's something to clarify what exactly I meant in the first place:

Total: 2 packages (2 upgrades), Size of downloads: 1.091 KiB

Would you like to merge these packages? [Yes/No] n
As you can see there're many packages to be updated yet portage only wants to do two of them
using emerge -uav world command.

Is there unmet required dependencies? But in that case portage would've mentioned it, right?
What am I missing here?

For information about the eix-diff command you might want to read the manpage of eix.
