livecd and no eth0...plz help

Im not sure if this should be in networking forum or not, but here goes. Im installing gentoo on an old piece of shit computer for my roomate.

It has an old lte100 linksys card in it. Whe i boot from the livecd, and then goto net-setup eth0 i set it up and when its done i type ifconfig. It only shows lo. tulip module is loaded and everything like that. dmesg doesnt really say anything interesting. Its giving me the usual siocsifflags: device or resource is in use or busy. After this i removed all pci cards except the lan card from the case to make sure that no irq were conflicting.

So i tried booting with acpi and now when it comes up i type ifconfig. This time I get eth0 interface.
I was all excited that it was working now, so i ran net-setup again and then tried ifconfig. Still says its running. Now as soon as i type ping (whatever) it tells me network unreachable and if i run another ifconfig eth0 is gone.

I had an older Linksys network card, it never worked well anywhere so I went and bought a new one. Still a linksys but it has been working well.

If you don't figure it out, I suggest you go buy a D-Link network card, cheap and very well supported. Or anything with Realtek 8192 chipset.

k...lspci shows the following:

Code: Select all

00:00.0 Host bridge
00:01.0 VGA compatible controller
00:1e.0 PCI bridge
00:1f.0 ISA bridge
00:1f.1 ide interface
00:if.2 USB controller
00:1f.3 SMBus
00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller
01:0e.0 Ethernet controller DECchip
I know that it has to be a conflict with irq's i just cant figure out how to fix this.
