In a nutshell: I have a systemd [1] system, with an LV that has a partition I want to mount on boot. `udevadm info -e|fgrep ${vg_name}` doesn't show my LV though. Any systemctl attempt to mount that block device would have it sit until it timed out.
Any LV that does show in the udev tree mounts fine with `systemctl start ${MOUNT_UNIT}.mount`. One way to cause my LV to appear would be to use `lvrename`, but that's sort-of a crappy thing to do mid-boot just because udev doesn't cooperate.
It's especially painful if the /etc/fstab entry hasn't got the 'nofail' option, because then systemd autogenerates a .mount file, then tries to mount with it. That attempt times out the system falls into emergency mode.
The red herring that wasted most of my time was wondering why a ''systemd-tty-ask-password-agent' process was forked by a failed attempt and just sitting there.
If I get around to submitting a bug report upstream I'll mention it here.
