Repository 'x-portage' is missing masters attribute

Having problems with the Gentoo Handbook? If you're still working your way through it, or just need some info before you start your install, this is the place. All other questions go elsewhere.

Repository 'x-portage' is missing masters attribute

When I do

Code: Select all

emerge-webrsync
, I get the following error

Code: Select all

!!! Repository 'x-portage' is missing masters attribute in '/usr/portage/metadata/layout.conf'
!!! Set 'masters = gentoo' in this file for future compatibilite
I have read this but in my case, it is
'/usr/portage/.../layout.conf'
and not
'/usr/local/portage/.../layout.conf'

also check in
/etc/portage/make.conf
if you have
PORTDIR_OVERLAY=whatever
" This variable is deprecated in favor of settings in repos.conf. This variable is a space-delimited list of directories. "
https://devmanual.gentoo.org/eclass-ref ... index.html
if you have moved from layman to eselect repository
you might want to delete it
