What modules should I have X load?

I'm trying to figure out which modules should be included in the modules section of my XF76configure file.

In my previous debian installation, I had the following modules installed:
GLCore, bitmap, dbe, ddc, dri, extmod, freetype, glx, int10, pex5, record, speedo, type1, vbe, xie.
And, for dbe, I had a subsection for Option "omit" "xfree86-dga".

Most of these modules have not been included when I ran xf86configure on my fresh gentoo installation.

I don't know where to find info on these modules and where they are located AND what they are for - so I don't really kow whether to add them in to my new system or not.

Any help?

You can find all? avaible modules in /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions.

I don't know what exactly some of them provide (freetype and speedo may provide font support for the same named fonts, GLCore and glx might be necassary for OpenGL)

"Omit" "xfree86dga" means that it should load the extension mentioned before but don't load the dga part of that extension.

I only load these:

Code: Select all

    SubSection "extmod"
      Option "omit xfree86-dga"
    EndSubSection

    Load "dbe"
    Load "glx"

    # Freetype module is used for gtk 1.x
    Load "freetype"
GLX is for NVIDIA's OpenGL, dbe is double buffer extension. I wouldn't load freetype except its used by X applications for ttf support, once I get rid of all gtk1.2 applications I'll get read of it too.
