Especially those Aqua themes. I've emerged back to gtk+2.2.4-r1

Solved:

Code: Select all

emerge gtk-engines

You just have to re-emerge or recompile those themes against gtk+ 2.4.

I've re-emerged those that came with ebuilds, but I love Milk2.0, and it's only a set of images, with the gktrc and iconrc files - nothing to compile.

anyone with ideas on how to fix it! :(

Here a message that was on screen (and that you ignored):

Code: Select all

For gtk themes to work correctly after an update, you might have to rebuild your theme engines.
Executing 'qpkg -f -nc /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.2.0/engines | xargs emerge' should do the trick if
you upgrade from gtk+-2.2 to 2.4 (requires gentoolkit).

yeah, i did the update overnight while I slept! so i wouldn't have noticed that passing, i've updated some of the engines, just installing some new one's i've found too! :D

EDIT: reemerging the engine worked, but that commaned would only rebuild the extras - I just did

Code: Select all

emerge gtk-engines
and once done it all worked fine again (no need to restart gnome)

Of course the trick with that is seeing it long enough to actually do something about it, because Portage almost immediately pushes it out of the scrollback buffer with the output from cleaning old versions.

I don't think the rebuilding is working here...
After the rebuild Nuvola and Lush still show up with the wrong kinda buttons. Now what? Any other suggestions?

Nuvola and lush are svg themes, I had the same problem with Gorilla.

I rebuilded librsvg and rebooted like suggested somewhere on a other thread. Don't know which of the two did the job :).

Might be, but doesn't svg only matter where it concerns the icons? Gorilla works btw, but I'll try rebuilding librsvg and rebooting.

Edit:

Ah! Rebuilt gtk-engines-smooth, unmerged thinice and lighthouseblue, re-emerged gnome-themes and gnome-themes-extras and now it works again! :)

It seems to me, that Gorilla is particulary popular. :D I prefer that theme too...

Is there any switch to emerge to rebuild those packages too, that depend on the updated packages?
