GTK theming + gKrellm2 font problem? Related?

  • Quote

http://www.thefairground.com/Images/VW/screen15.03.png

Is a screenshot of my desktop. I almost have it set up completely for me but I've run into a problem - 2 problems if they're not related but I think they may be.

Problem 1: I can't switch GTK themes. I've got gtk-theme-switch installed and when running switch2 switching themes does nothing. BUT, I can use switch2 to change the font I'm using. What I'd like to do is find a theme that will match what I have going on in the rest of screen. The Gimp is displayed to show the only gtk theme I seem to be able to use.

Problem 2: gKrellm2 will not change fonts. No matter what I change the fonts to in the gKrellm2 theme nothing changes. I used to be able to switch fonts but somewhere along the line I lost that functionality. As you can see in the screenshot the font in gKrellm2 is rather small making it somewhat difficult to read.

Possible vitals:
Openbox3
gtk-theme-switch-2.0.0_rc2

Any ideas?

you can change your gkrellm fonts with xfontsel. example with snap font (artwiz):

-artwiz-snap-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

good luck ^_^

Ok...even if I figure out how to use xfontsel, the fonts I want to use aren't listed there & yes I do have them installed, I'm still kinda stuck with the same problem: the Gkrellm2 app ignores any font change I make with the app. Why?

Are there few responses because I'm stupid and missing something obvious or does no one know?

Well, all I could tell you is that I've the same problem... I noticed this problem back when I tested a gnome 2.5 beta build, so with gtk+ 2.3 : it seems nothing changed with gtk+ 2.4, and I'll send a mail to the author.

It's been suggested that I emerge Gnome and see what happens. 32 packages to solve this? Outrageous but whatever if it works I'll live with it and weed what ever I don't need from the gnome emerge out later on.

Well, it isn't related to Gnome but to GTK ! I'm currently running Gnome 2.4 (~x86), and I can't change the font used by Gkrellm.

That's why I'm pretty sure it's related to Gkrellm...

same thing here with gkrellm-2.1.28
just update glib to 2.4.0 this morning
I guess that there is an inconsistency between gkrellm and the new glib 2.4.0

Yeah it's good to know I'm not alone in this as well.

So does anyone think that this is related to the Gnome theming problem or is it a seperate issue?

The gkrellm font problem is directly related to gtk+.

gkrellm-2.1.28 with gtk+-2.2.4

gkrellm-2.1.28 with gtk+-2.4.0

I've downgraded to 2.2.4 and masked the newer versions. It's too bad since there is some nice stuff in 2.4.0, but I have to have my gkrellm.

I wouldn't care but the font being used is too small.

Has anyone contacted the Gkrellm people to let them know there's a gtk problem?

Private Lama reporting, Sir! Same problem, Sir!

Been like this since I emerged gtk+-2.4.0, atk-1.6.0, pango-1.4.0 and glib-2.4.0 in one batch...

Fonts are readable, but only if you're a friggin' smurf.

Yeah, that's an issue with glib-2.4.0 and 2.3, if I reckon right... Is there a patch someone knows of?
Best regards,

The problem is not with glib, it is gtk+. Gkrellm is working fine on my desktop and laptop with glib-2.4.0, pango-1.4.0 and atk-1.6.0. The only package that makes this happen is gtk+ later than 2.2.4. That is the only difference between the screen shots in my earlier post.
