I found the script in this page vey interesting
http://www.cherrynebula.net/projects/gentoo/gentoo.html
I have only to download the xdelta file and the script make for me the new 3.2.1 packages!

Why I have to download about 120MB when I can only download less then 5 MB?

Now I'm compiling!

Is there an ebuild for 3.2.1 in the portage, yet?

There's no any ebuild of 3.2.1!
You have to modify your 3.2.0! I've removed all the epatch hoping that the correlated problem was solved!
For arts and kdelibs I don't have any problem, kdebase is compiling now!

I see arts-1.2.1, kdelibs-3.2.1, kdebase-3.2.1, etc. in my portage tree. Now I'm downloading the sources with "emerge -fUD world".

Just be patient. There's not much I can do about putting the latest ebuilds in portage when KDE is released while I'm sleeping. It will be there soon, I promise.

When you don't have an ebuild for a new version (not very different) you can make a copy of the old ebuild and change the numeric version:

Code: Select all

#cp kdebase-3.2.0.ebuild kdebase-3.2.1.ebuild
Now you look inside the ebuild if there is something strictly related with the old version that you could remove

Code: Select all

#nano -w kdebase-3.2.1.ebuild
Inside that ebuild there are same patch for kdebase-3.2.0

Code: Select all

epatch ${FILESDIR}/${P}-kcontrol.patch
I removed this hoping that the kde team resolved the problem!
Now you can:

Code: Select all

#ebuild kdebase-3.2.1.ebuild digest
#emerge kdebase-3.2.1.ebuild
calculate the md5 of the source file and finally emerge!

This is really weird.
I went to KDE's homepage and I did not see anything about new release, at least nothing on the front page.
And then I came here and I saw the link. :!: :!:

Life can be so weird  I just added a one to the link to 3.2 this morning and found the releasenotes.

After upgrading some packages of KDE from 3.2 to 3.2.1 I get this:

Code: Select all

bash-2.05b# emerge -UD world -p
>>> --upgradeonly implies --update... adding --update to options.

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating world dependencies ...done!
[ebuild U ] app-text/wv2-0.2.1 [0.2]
[ebuild UD] kde-base/arts-1.2.0 [1.2.1]
[ebuild UD] kde-base/kdelibs-3.2.0 [3.2.1]
[ebuild UD] kde-base/kdebase-3.2.0 [3.2.1]
[ebuild UD] kde-base/kdenetwork-3.2.0 [3.2.1]
[ebuild UD] kde-base/kdepim-3.2.0-r2 [3.2.1]
[ebuild UD] kde-base/kdemultimedia-3.2.0 [3.2.1]
[ebuild U ] kde-base/kdeartwork-3.2.1 [3.2.0]
[ebuild U ] kde-base/kdeaccessibility-3.2.1 [3.2.0]
[ebuild U ] kde-base/kde-i18n-3.2.1 [3.2.0]
Why does portage want to downgrade the fresh installed KDE 3.2.1 packages? and -U doesn't seems to be recognized...

Code: Select all

bash-2.05b# emerge --version
Portage 2.0.50-r1 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.3.3, glibc-2.3.3_pre20040207-r0, 2.6.3-gentoo-r2)
Im using portage with "~x86".

Thanks for any hints,
Carsten

Depends on what you mean with "recommeded" :)
It works nicely with qt-3.3.1, and most troubles have been fixed. Anyway, kde-3.2.X is a qt-3.2 'app', so even though it works, you usually win nothing. So it's not recommeded in that it gives you nothing more than qt-3.2.3 would, but I think most issues people had while running kde-3.2.0 and qt-3.3.0 will go away if you use kde-3.2.1 and qt-3.3.1-r1 :)
gnu your mind...

I don't think that qt 3.3 is recommended! But it seems that the problem qt3.3+kget is solved!
I've tried several DL pausing restarting cancelling and finally don't crash!

So, is not a problem if you want to try the new qt!

Bye

PS: crashed now!!!

I will do the same thing :) Although, I can not wait to install it. You see I have KDE 3.1.5.
BTW, does anybody know when xfree 4.4.0 will be in the portage. I would also like to update xfree.
I know, I am asking too much from the Gentoo's developers :)

I seem to remember having this problem some time ago, and it was due to not having motif in my use flags when I compiled kde.

Probably xfree-4.4.0 will never be in portage, because of the license problem!
