Problems with GUI applications? Questions about X, KDE, Gnome, Fluxbox, etc.? Come on in. NOTE: For multimedia, go up one forum

Is GIMP the only application that can represent Linux GUI? Do you really think it will impress others? (or attract them from Windows to Linux?)
Since I don't use GIMP at all, I am just curious to know.

I guess it's just because it's easy to take screen shots from Gimp :)

Are you a moron? Gimp has an 'Acquire' function that is used to ACQUIRE a screenshot... hence gimp being opened.

Lets put a little more effort into not looking like a dumbass, k?

Ok ok... I apologize.

I guess the whole "Do you think it will impress people?" thing annoyed me.

Oh, I didn't know that. That makes more sense. I use the "Take Screenshot" feature comes with GNOME instead.

Gimp has the advantage of being able to delay your shot for x number of seconds, thereby setting up certain shots (like menu dropdowns). Of course one could always use "sleep x && import -window root screenshot.png".

now see, i don't use Gnome. ;) but seeing as i edit pictures quite frequently, in GIMP mind you, it makes sense to have it open, and thus use its screenshot feature as well.

Screenshots? Pfah!!

I just draw a renditiion of my desktop with ascii characters

http://contact.3utilities.com/sd/snap1.jpg

pHEAR it -- my desktop rules. I think Gimp sucks, its UI is *horrible* ;)
And it should be plainly obvious at this point that I am a UI expert.

I think gimp is great and all, but I would enjoy using it better if it had a single-windowed GUI as opposed to 4 different windows. Is this already possible? If so, please mind my stupidity.

It's lou-dog. I'm a huge Sublime fan. I guess I've seen it too much to realize that it isn't very recognizable as a dog to the untrained eye.

MDI goes against the GNOME HIG and I don't think the GIMP people like it any better, so no.
And FWIW, the Mac version of Photoshop uses a SDI interface rather than MDI.

You can emulate, in a sense, a MDI interface by dedicating a virtual window to it, seeing as most WMs separate taskbar lists to each WM.

Have you tried 2.0? It's much improved in this regard. You can have tabs in the one window for things like tool options, layers, brushes etc and you can dock it onto the main tool pallete window so you basically have 2 windows. One for the image and one for everything else. Much better.

Haha, I'll give you a hint: The head is what you see on the right, moving from bottom to top. The light is shining on him from the left.
