nforce2 dma

After upgrading my kernel to linux-2.6.3-gentoo-r2 I can longer turn on dma support for my drives. I have an Asus a7nx8 motherboard.

I am using the exact same .config file as my previous 2.6.1 kernel which worked fine (and continues to work fine as I went back to using it).

Anyone else having this problem? And yes I have the amd74xx moduling loading onstartup.... an 'lsmod' shows it properly installed and running.

Hmmm...

You can't set dma through hdparm?

Code: Select all

# hdparm -d1 /dev/hda
I have the A7N8X and I have a strange dma issue as well but I can always set it using hdparm once it boots up.

no.. thats the problem. Every kernel past 2.6.1 has a problem setting dma on my disks (at least 2.6.3 and 2.6.4 which was just released).

2.6.1 allows me to set dma using hdparm but the others give me a permission denied error.

Can you post your config so I can try compiling with it?

resolved... it seems that you can no longer load the ide driver as a module and expect it to work. I have compiled it into the kernel (where it really should be the more I think about it) and everything is peachy.
