create /dev entry for ibook wireless card

I installed gentoo on my ibook a few months ago, but for some reason there is no /dev/eth1 for the wireless card that was in. Now i really need that card working and I am not sure how to go about getting it to work. I'm pretty sure everything is there except the device file, the kernel is configured correctly. Does anyone know a good way of goin about this.

I'm running gentoo (kernel 2.4.21) on my ibook se 366Mhz.
My airport drviers are in as modules (airport, orinoco and hermes).
'When I 'modprobe airport', then ifconfig reports the device as present.
