Ok, updated :)

I haven't updated one or two that haven't got version numbers ... but hopefully I've got all the rest.

Cool, good news

If you have any tips for others on the hardware, then add them to the thread, it might help others to choose the best mobo and hardware for them.

No probs if you don't have the time

A recent bout of emerges and updates brought up this list. I'll check in a bit to see if any are dupes or already knowns.

sys-kernel/gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.3-r2

dev-java/blackdown-jdk-1.4.2_rc1
app-office/openoffice-bin/openoffice-bin-1.1.0 [As per Q' post - need to put FEATURES="-sandbox" in make.conf before it will run the setup]

games-roguelike

I can't belive nobody tested these critically important productivity apps out before. These ones just work:

games-roguelike/angbang-3.0.3
games-roguelike/tome-2.2.5-r1
games-roguelike/scourge-0.1

games-roguelike/adom-1.1.1-r1

(Adom seems to consist of ELF binaries, for some reason, but it works fine with apps-emulation/emul-linux-baselibs-1.0 installed - I suppose it should use that as a dependency on amd64.)

These ones gave me some trouble:

games-roguelike/hengband-1.6.0

hengband compiled and installed without a hitch, but then popped up three xterms which didn't seem to accept input and froze with a warning about the save file not being found.

games-roguelike/zangband-2.7.4b

Initially I got GTK-related errors when I tried to compile this (in gtk-main.c). I tried again using USE="-gtk" emerge zangband and it compiled OK, but had trouble running (similar to what happened with hengband - three xterms opened and it froze after character creation).

games-roguelike/ivan-0.430

This compiled and installed OK, but segfaulted when I tried to run it.

Here's my emerge --info, for the record:

works with no problems, though I compiled it with USE="-gtk -gnome" to avoid lengthy gnome recompiles.

To make the list even more impressive, the following worked for me out of the box:

media-sound/gnomeradio-1.4
media-sound/gnome-alsamixer-0.9.3
dev-util/desktop-file-utils-0.3
net-im/gabber-0.8.8
dev-tex/latex-unicode-20030605
dev-tex/cjk-latex-4.2.5

app-emacs/mmm-mode-0.4.7
app-emacs/crypt++-2.91
app-emacs/gnuserv-3.12.5
app-emacs/mule-ucs-0.85_rc3

(Edit: Just reported them all to bugzilla.)

(Everything else in app-emacs and app-xemacs should work too, but I didn't test that.)

net-news/inn-2.3.5 (which is listed in package.mask because of security issues, but they are not relevant for me)

Not working on first try were

lirc (0.6.6 won't compile, 0.7.0_pre2 won't run)
media-tv/nxtvepg-2.6.0 (won't compile)
app-emulation/bochs-2.1 and -2.0.2 (dito)

I'll have a closer look at them now that the important things are all up and running.

Also I encountered that gcc won't compile with USE-flags multilib and java set at the same time.
EDIT: This is already listed in Bugzilla as #42797. Solution: Don't put java in your USE flags, it is not supported on amd64 /EDIT

Frank, still impressed how fast his Athlon64-3000+/Gentoo-box is, compared to the old Athlon-550/Debian

I was able to get grub 0.94-r1 to compile this morning - anyone else? I've rebooted and checked the version, worked just fine. Has grub (not static) been working for a while on amd64 and I just missed it?

Hi all.. Just got my new AMD 64 system up and running.
Anyhow I just tried out media-sound/cdplay and with just adding ~amd64 in the ebuild I was able to get it to complie and it seems to run quite well.

The following work for me, and I have linked to them:
app-sci/lapack
app-sci/blas

Additionally,
app-sci/mpqc/mpqc-2.2.0
has compiled, and thus far appears to be working well. I am in the process of running all of its test routines; the ones I've seen so far have given me results accurate to within machine precision. The suite will probably take several/many hours to run :(

Because I am lazy, I will love you if you tell me where to report these as working ;)

http://bugs.gentoo.org -> Report a bug

You can do a search for amd64 to see some samples.

Important: Report each of them in a own bug-report unless they are a depency of each other. Otherwise Brad will just mark the report as invalid.
