Well, they uploaded the files to the servers, but no announcement and no GWN...

I'm already seing articles showing up about the release but nothing from Gentoo themselves.

What gives :)

Oh, and another thing.

The Mods don't get enough apreciation, so here's a big hug to you guys for doing an excelent job. Keep up the good work.

What I saw:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php? ... &start=275

But the topic is for testers, so I thought this was a bit OOT after all.

But yeah, they are selling the CD's already...

I know, but the releases is interesting nonetheless, since they bring new tools, support for new hardware etc...

2004.0 will probably make gentoo easier to install. Nothing more. If you have gentoo already, there is no need to get it, since it isnt an upgrade.

It's on slashdot. And of course only 1% of the posts even refer to gentoo 2004.0.

I just checked out the store and they say they're shipping out orders of 2004.0, so I can only conclude it's out, whether or not it's hit the mirrors yet.

No they aren't and they don't... Unless you mean for the install procedure.

Yes, that is exacly what I mean.
If you check out the install-forum you will see questions about sata and so on. I would believe that they have added more support for that.

The kernel on this one throws a nice oops when running grub as well (grub 0.94-r1 bootstrapped to ~x86 here).
I had to boot a handy Linux CD to run it to complete the installation (in this case all I had was Arch Linux 0.5 but it worked)
Genkernel still hasn't provided a bootable kernel using the guide - it complains about not being able to mount root on the ramdisk (for the initrd image I presume).

But I do dig the new bootsplash, and for once iputils compiled without a problem.

All in all it was a rather painfree install.
