Usually comparing gentoo with windows is completely impossible, gentoo is so much better, but when it comes to this specific server, performance is so much slower, and i think it must be SCSI.
I've only been using gentoo for a couple months and switched on this server to gentoo. It's main duties are apache, mysql, php, postfix, cyrus and compared with windows 2000 server on the same machine, it's slow as hell.
Code: Select all
methylethanol dcfletcher # hdparm -tT /dev/sda
/dev/sda:
Timing buffer-cache reads: 32 MB in 2.23 seconds = 14.32 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 18 MB in 3.09 seconds = 5.83 MB/sec
My questions are, how can i speed up this, is the problem caused by SCSI, is there something like hdparm to speed up scsi disks?
David.
