Could you maybe provide a screenshot or further notes on what exactly you are seeing?

Also is this about the Gentoo 20XX style or more of them?

Will look into it more in any case, thanks!
Certainly. Consider these screenshots, where the "after" variants have been subjected to the proposed CSS tweak:-

Code: Select all

$ tar tf gentoo-forums-cssfix.tar
gentoo-subforums-after.png
gentoo-subforums-before.png
gentoo-topics-after.png
gentoo-topics-before.png

$ sha256sum gentoo-forums-cssfix.tar
4c45f0845cb03e2b7a72d46e0bd92d96a46117b07c82f24583c423d5f074fbea  gentoo-forums-cssfix.tar

$ curl --upload-file gentoo-forums-cssfix.tar https://paste.c-net.org/
https://paste.c-net.org/ReceivedMinds

$ curl -o gentoo-forums-cssfix.tar https://paste.c-net.org/ReceivedMinds # to download
To elaborate ...
  • The icon in the first column of each row of the "subforums" list is vertically aligned, yet nothing else is, which is aesthetically displeasing
  • The last column of most rows of the "subforums" list generally give the impression of having their content be vertically aligned; in reality this is not the case but there is an observable discrepancy between that column and the preceding three columns
  • Vertically aligning the content throughout the rows is more aesthetically pleasing, in my opinion
  • More importantly, I have found that vertically aligning the content reduces my reading fatigue while browsing the denser "topic" lists
EDIT: My CSS adversely affects the .pagination elements but that wasn't the case at the time of my prior post, so something must have changed (probably to do with floating). Will look into that.

Many thanks! I see it now yeah.

I feel I prefer the topic pages being aligned to the right though, but in any case, 'after' is certainly an improvement.
Kindest of regardses.

Yes, absolutely. I edited my post to note that something changed between the time I posted the CSS and now.

I don't see unanswered posts, my posts, and posts since your last visit.
I hate it already.
It has an undefinable quality of heaviness and something that turns you off.
But that's just me.
Sorry for my honesty. :)

At the top left is “Quick Links” ... there you can use "New posts", "Unread posts" and, most importantly, “Your posts”. Please don't worry, I needed also some time (and still need more time) ... ;-)

The left top corner. I didn't see it at the first moment either.
Right, but somehow today Quick Links behaved strangely. It gave me only three options ("Unanswered topics", "Active topics" and Search) until I started to write this answer. To write the answer I was asked to login, and now I have all the other options in Quick List.

But I had no easy to see indication that I was not logged in before. I was browsing, getting frustrated why Quick Link does not have anything useful like New Posts anymore

If you see the “Register” and "Login" options in the top right corner instead of “Notifications,” “Private Messages,” and your username, you'll immediately realize that you're not logged in. ;-)

Yes, but it is small and not in my line of sight. And I drop in just for for few min perhaps to check if there are no new posts, and I cannot get there. It is not even clear why I should be logged in to see "New posts", while I can still read posts I select manually. To answer myself, the engine probably means "New posts" as "new to this user", and needs to know the user. In this case it is a different functionality than "posts in the last 24 hours". If so, I would suggest "Quick Links" also had "Login" link if the user is not yet logged in

Yes, the new posts is not a replacement for the 24h timeframe. It needs to know the user, otherwise It would not know the last login.

The search has a function "Limit results to previous:" which has a timeframe selection. Maybe we can create a link to execute a search automatically. But it depends on how this will result in server load.

I don't really like it and what really bug me is 1/3 of the width of the page is wasted. I have a large monitor, why do we need to have so much unused vertical space? Why does the div with the info have to be so small? Why not use the whole width? Thank goodness there is the Stylus extension. I added

Code: Select all

#wrap {
    width: inherit;
}
an now I have no horizontal space wasted.

Please do mention the style you are using since there are 4 available at this time. :]

I assume it's the defaul, 20XX one though, and that is intentionally limiting the width.

Gentoo Light and Dark are more based on the old theme and do not do that.

I suppose we could have a version of 20XX that also doesn't do that.
Kindest of regardses.

Gentoo 20XX. Gentoo Light and Gentoo Dark do not indeed limit the width.

However on Gentoo Light when the height of the page is smaller than the viewport (for example with threads without answers and with few lines of text, for example viewtopic.php?t=1177301) , the footer does not go to the bottom of the page and a "white band" is displayed instead. On Gentoo Dark this happens as well, but it is less noticeable since the background is grey.

Hi,
The anonymous forum function (search.php?search_id=last) has been removed.
The new forum function (search.php?search_id=newposts) is only available to non-anonymous users.

I just received a notification a report was closed but when clicking on it it said I'm not authorized.

I'm not sure if this is a problem or a bug but reporting it just for any case.

Best Regards,
Georgi

Thank you for your feedback. :D We are working on a solution so every reporter gets information back what happened, but for now we dont have it.

The reported post with a spam link was sent to "dustbin" (users have no access) and your report was closed to show the moderation (and admin) team that your report has been processed. All okay. :D
