Dark mode is set in a user's preferences as "My board style" setting "Gentoo dark"acidrums4 wrote: Thu Apr 02, 2026 3:10 pmHeard about a dark mode but can't see anything related about it - I can help with that a bit too.

This can be done per forum using the icon at the bottom to limit display by time, but I haven't yet discovered a way to do it over all forums.GDH-gentoo wrote: Thu Apr 02, 2026 3:23 pmIs there an equivalent of "view all posts in the last 24 hours" (or something like that), that the old version of the forums had? There's "active topics", but it misses some threads with new posts.
I asked about it earlier but I do not think there is right now (Edit: personally I used to always visit search_id=last but that returns nothing now), active topics thing may(?) get improved as it currently only check specific forums it looks like.GDH-gentoo wrote: Thu Apr 02, 2026 3:23 pm Huh, someone changed the decoration...

That does seem odd with regards transparency! Will look.Ionen wrote: Thu Apr 02, 2026 3:57 pm On another note, I wonder why transparency doesn't work in avatars anymore? Well, it works in the profile image and the top-right icon but not in the threads themselves where it's replaced by white. Then again given there is a frame thing around it probably wouldn't look right either way.
Also 7kB limit sure is small for 160x160 avatars (before it was 80x80 limit), esp. if want transparency to work which makes .jpg a non-option. Not that can't manage something using media-gfx/pngquant to reduce.. albeit it does hurt colours a bit to go from rgba~30kB to gif-style colourmap 7kB.
Wrong. It's described very accurately here: https://xkcd.com/936/
It should be "Other Things Open Source" in "Discussion & Documentation". Do you have it?salahx wrote: Thu Apr 02, 2026 5:21 pm Wasn't there a board called "All things Open Source" before the upgrade? I don't see it on the new forums.
Entropy and length are very different things.pietinger wrote: Thu Apr 02, 2026 5:19 pm Wrong. It's described very accurately here: https://xkcd.com/936/

It's there now. It wasn't a few minutes ago.
Please don't. While Discourse is (arguably) still nicer to use on a smartphone, most Gentoo users probably use Gentoo on a device with a real keyboard and a real display, and Discourse just sucks on those.

These are tweaked now, not saying fixed yet. :]Ionen wrote: Thu Apr 02, 2026 3:57 pm On another note, I wonder why transparency doesn't work in avatars anymore? Nice, transparency does work for me now (had to clear cache for the change to take place ftr)..Chiitoo wrote: Thu Apr 02, 2026 7:26 pmThese are tweaked now, not saying fixed yet. :]Ionen wrote: Thu Apr 02, 2026 3:57 pm On another note, I wonder why transparency doesn't work in avatars anymore? In addition to a background-color, there was also a border and box-shadow which I removed for now.
Code: Select all
Maximum dimensions; width: 1280 pixels, height: 720 pixels, file size: 1231.00 KiB
Good to know!SigHunter wrote: Thu Apr 02, 2026 7:44 pm finally the forums are usable with a phone!![]()
well done and thanks to everyone involved
Nice and yeah, just playing around with them a bit, will probably go down to those levels or so.Ionen wrote: Thu Apr 02, 2026 8:12 pmNice, transparency does work for me now (had to clear cache for the change to take place ftr)..Chiitoo wrote: Thu Apr 02, 2026 7:26 pmThese are tweaked now, not saying fixed yet. :]Ionen wrote: Thu Apr 02, 2026 3:57 pm On another note, I wonder why transparency doesn't work in avatars anymore? wrt sizes, maybe the new defaults are a bit much? 160x160 was fine if it's what it's displayed as (16:9 limits feel confusing too, it's really a square), it's just the 7kB that felt bit small (maybe 30-50kB or so would be nice while still not being too big). Doesn't seem like they get converted and potentially loading several 1MB avatars on a page doesn't sound nice even in the age of modern internet.Code: Select all
Maximum dimensions; width: 1280 pixels, height: 720 pixels, file size: 1231.00 KiB
Oh yeah.. hugeChiitoo wrote: Thu Apr 02, 2026 8:18 pmNice and yeah, just playing around with them a bit, will probably go down to those levels or so.
While there is a maximum in posts and such, that is seen, the profile page has different maximums. :]
(Check mine for example right now.)
