Can you look at the build.log file (3rd line of the snippet) and see if you can identify a clear error message?

I'm sorry, I should have supported this earlier.

It has failed to unpack the rpm. I'm not sure what compression it uses but I think it's gzip. Can you test if your tar, gz bzip, etc. utilities work properly?

Also can you find the listed file in the dist dir and try to open it with something like xarchive or another tool to verify if the file is not corrupted?

Georgi

I don't understand rpm. I don't see any useful information here either.

I tested installing libreoffice-l10n with L10N="es" on my system and it worked fine.

My best guess is something on your system is broken.

I see your emerge --info contains 4 versions of python. Have you run a depclean recently? Do you have something in you package.mask?

Could you please post the output of

Code: Select all

wgetpaste -c 'emerge -DuUpv --backtrack=0 @world'
RPM uses zlib, bzip2, xz-utils and zstd. Can you test if all of those work properly?

Georgi

I think we're onto something but I'll be able to look at it when I get back home.

In the mean time give me the output of

wgetpaste /var/lib/portage/world

What I expected. You have "world pollution". This means stuff that should be only pulled in by what needs it is recorded in world this way complicating dependency resolution.

However I'd ask for other members to join in cleaning it as I can't assist you directly right now.

I'll only ask for why do you have almost all the QT suite in world? Do you really need it? If you don't know why something is there you can `emerge --deselect` it and then `emerge -ca` and indirect the list carefully to make sure portage doesn't clean something you need. If it wants to remove something you need, you `emerge --noreplace` it.

Now that alone might not solve the problem but let's clear this and see where it goes.

Georgi

So I see nobody else has joined in.

First we see we have a problem with bzip2 being unable to update because of other things holding on to an older version. My first suspicion was some of the archiving utilities do not work and that's what's preventing unpacking of the file from the original error message, so this is a clue we might be going the right direction.

But then I see you have a pretty old glib and then there's a lot of stuff I don't even want to start trying to read.

This is a script that would go through your world file and inspect the entries in it. If an entry is pulled in by something else, the script will delete it. Don't worry, it makes a backup copy of your world file.

Code: Select all

for i in `cat /var/lib/portage/world`
do
if emerge -p --depclean $i | grep "These are the packages that would be unmerged:">null
  then echo $i >>/var/lib/portage/world-new
  else echo "removing:" $i
  fi
done
mv /var/lib/portage/world /var/lib/portage/world-previous
mv /var/lib/portage/world-new /var/lib/portage/world
It'll output lines like that:

Code: Select all

removing: <package atom>
...
If you don't like it removes something, then you can

Code: Select all

emerge --noreplace <list of package atoms here>
I'd rather like to see that list first.

Then when we agree you're OK with it we'll run

Code: Select all

emerge --pretend --depclean
and you will inspect the list of packages to be removed one more time. If it's all OK the we'll

Code: Select all

emerge --depclean
and you'll give me the output of

Code: Select all

wgetpaste -c 'emerge --DuUpv @world'
again.

We'll see what we'll do from there.

It's a bit slow, but it's tested. Other members have come with faster versions but with more caveats.

Best Regards,
Georgi

In my opinion, your analysis of “world pollution” is/was correct, and that's why I didn't see any need to write anything. The only thing I'd like to add now is ...

Thanks for linking the newer script, I didn't have a link to it. This script is exactly what I was referring to. However I remember there were caveats and I felt OP might need more assistance with this matter and that's why I didn't event try to search for it.

For the same reason I wanted more people to come in and help with the cleanup.

I'm writing just to mention the above script has a bug.

It'll always offer to clean up packages like vim and gentoo-sources. I haven't figured out why.

It still works but you need to expect some packages might be wrongly marked for cleanup.

I installed the app-arch/rpm2targz package; portage didn't complain.
I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Strange.
Thanks a lot, guys.

Your system is still clogged. You need to clean it up or you're going to get into a worse situation.

Thank you, sir.
I'll keep that in mind and I'm going to try your script and mr. Goverp's script, which was posted here by mr. Pietinger.
