[SOLVED] Thinkpad ACPI Extras is not in 6.18 anymore?

Kernel not recognizing your hardware? Problems with power management or PCMCIA? What hardware is compatible with Gentoo? See here. (Only for kernels supported by Gentoo.)

[SOLVED] Thinkpad ACPI Extras is not in 6.18 anymore?

Hi folks!

After updating to 6.18.18 I found that my Lenovo X230 has no ACPI support: no AC/battery status, no brightness key support, no sensors, no lid events.
After some search I found that CONFIG_THINKPAD_ACPI* options are completely missing from 6.18.18 kernel and Device drivers -> X86 Platform Specific Device Drivers simply do not mention any Thinkpad option except hdaps. There is whole bunch of vendor Laptop Extras except for Thinkpad! Also I found Lenovo IdeaPad Laptop Extras but that didn't work. Google gives only old information that does not help. I have to roll back to 6.12.58.

What is going on? What I'm missing?

I found it right below the Ideapad Laptop Extras:

Code: Select all

< > Lenovo IdeaPad Laptop Extras
< > Lenovo Hotkey Utility WMI extras driver
< > Lenovo WMI Camera Button driver
< > ThinkPad ACPI Laptop Extras
It is dependent on some things. Maybe you have one of them disabled?

Code: Select all

ThinkPad ACPI Laptop Extras found in drivers/platform/x86/lenovo/Kconfig

The configuration item CONFIG_THINKPAD_ACPI:
    prompt: ThinkPad ACPI Laptop Extras
    type: tristate
    depends on: ( CONFIG_ACPI_EC ) && ( CONFIG_ACPI_BATTERY ) && ( CONFIG_INPUT ) && ( CONFIG_RFKILL || CONFIG_RFKILL = CONFIG_n ) && ( CONFIG_ACPI_VIDEO || CONFIG_ACPI_VIDEO = CONFIG_n ) && ( CONFIG_BACKLIGHT_CLASS_DEVICE ) && ( CONFIG_I2C ) && ( CONFIG_DRM )
    defined in drivers/platform/x86/lenovo/Kconfig
found in Linux kernels: 6.17–6.19, 7.0-rc+HEAD
    modules built: thinkpad_acpi, thinkpad_acpi, thinkpad_acpi

Yes, this was CONFIG_ACPI_EC right away. Have no clue why I disabled this, but after reenabling it, I have all ThinkPad bells and whistles back again.
Thank you very much!
