Trying to install PyTorch

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

Something is forcing older versions of all the packages, but I can't figure out what it is. Does anyone know any voodoo to figure out what is going wrong?

From a blank slate I get one BS complaint that makes no sense to me.

I can't figure out why it's trying to pull in both versions of cmake. Neither hipBLASLt-7.2.0 or rocBLAS-7.2.0 are blocked and both can be installed. Why is it forcing install of 7.1.0?

I actually don't need or want hipBLASLt and I added that to my use, but it didn't make any difference. (not shown here)

As an experiment, I forced the install of 7.2.0 of all the roc and hip packages, which happened cleanly.

It may be possible to solve this problem by using package.mask to
prevent one of those packages from being selected. However, it is also
possible that conflicting dependencies exist such that they are
impossible to satisfy simultaneously.  If such a conflict exists in
the dependencies of two different packages, then those packages can
not be installed simultaneously. You may want to try a larger value of
the --backtrack option, such as --backtrack=30, in order to see if
that will solve this conflict automatically.

It's probably a chain reaction that starts from here: sci-ml/caffe2-2.10.0-r4, a dependency of sci-ml/pytorch-2.10.0, wants to downgrade the installed dev-util/hip because it doesn't support version 7.2 or higher.

If you want PyTorch, you'll have to let several ROCm- and HIP-related packages downgrade to 7.1.0. Portage was trying to do so with direct and indirect dependencies of sci-ml/caffe2, but it seems other packages have to be downgraded as well. sci-libs/hipsparselt is one that stands out in that output. I don't know if there are more. What does:

Oh, I forgot how I got there. When I don't unmask, something reports it can't find something else... I'll post that again when I try yet again.
