Red Dead Redemption does not start... and water is wet.

I'm trying to run it from Steam through GE-Proton10-30. The launcher gives the error "failed to authenticate with Rockstar services", which is strange, since Red Dead Redemption II works completely fine, and it uses the same launcher. I've tried re-installing the game several times, to no avail.

Does anyone know how to make this work? Rockstar support is essentially non-existent...
