just curiously asking

kde said they will integrate systemd in the future.....maybe ksystemd....or whatever...

then how will gentoo go to kde stream? will gentoo make open-rc still? or will emerge the whole system into ksystemd for kde profile?

hmmmmmmmmmm........

Can you provide a source for the claim you're worried about? I think plasma-login-manager is going to require systemd for the foreseeable future, but sddm will remain an alternative.

See https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/1 ... s_forcing/ as well wrt commitment to not require systemd.

If that changes, we will see what the facts are and plan accordingly. But if KDE Plasma were to require systemd, which I've seen no evidence of, that would not mean we discontinue OpenRC.

Like what sam_ said, all I've heard is that KDE has developed their own login manager, which depends on systemd, but is optional. KDE Plasma does not depend on any specific login manager.

If there's more, I want sources for the information.

Code: Select all

init=/sbin/openrc-init
-systemd -logind -elogind seatd

i would say systemd is NOT optional.....just like elogind lingering nowadays....
so that actually do design some stuff in between....

i guess 10 yrs later will be no one capable of tweaking systemd moving away.....coz it's super centralised and no one even know how it operates.....
that's the problem.....

btw, i don't believe in kind of saying 'systemd is for developer'....sorry....systemd to me is just filling ini-files which i don't count this kind of filling typing activities as developers.....i guess a proper init script is more like it....

anyway.....time will tell

It's open source, and to my knowledge quite well documented.
systemd, in my opinion, has other problems.

Anyway, KDE Plasma will continue working on systems without systemd. It's fairly popular on the BSD desktop side too, where systemd is not an option.

it's STILL open source at this moment
but the author already independent now......left microsoft, left redhat, left ibm.....stuff like that
maybe some day it just swaps like mysql to oracle and while mariadb just live like dead

so......who knows.....i just don't like that kind of super centralise level of sense.....people would be just lack of participation....
i mean open source......it's not about re-invent the wheel how many times.....it's about how to let the elder mentor the young......even with everybody possessing the repeating knowledge....

honeymak.

No more FUD posts please.
Cite your sources or do not post in this topic again.
Another FUD post will get this topic locked, so so many systemd topics before it.

NeddySeagoon

honeymak,

did you perhaps confuse systemd with wayland?

... because there was a message about "KDE Plasma 6.8 will be Wayland-only" -> https://lwn.net/Articles/1048208/
