System unexplainably crashes

My system unexplainably freezes quite often. This usually happens only moments after boot, sometimes even before I manage to log in to Plasma (which might rule it out as the problem). I tried getting some more information with journalctl -rxb and dmesg, which didn't show anything I noticed.
I know very little about the cause of this, which is why I don't know what more information to give.
I thought it might be SDDM, and I found an empty entry in a config file somewhere:
(/etc/sddm.conf.d/01gentoo.conf)

Code: Select all

Try and boot the LiveUSB if you still have it available, and see if the symptoms persist there. If they do, you've likely got a hardware problem. I think that is already likely if the hangs seem to happen randomly and soon after boot.
Is there gas in the caaaaar?
Yes, there's gas in the caaaar

What hardware? AMD GPU?
Is the system really frozen, or just the GUI (i.e. can you ssh in)?
Have you ruled out the usual suspects, e.g. by running a comprehensive memory test?
Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Three times is enemy action. Four times is Official GNOME Policy.
