Xlibre Use Flags Question [RESOLVED]

This forum covers all Gentoo-related software not officially supported by Gentoo. Ebuilds/software posted here might harm the health and stability of your system(s), and are not supported by Gentoo developers. Bugs/errors caused by ebuilds from overlays.gentoo.org are covered by this forum, too.

Xlibre Use Flags Question [RESOLVED]

  • Quote

Post by ricky_rich85 » Thu Feb 19, 2026 9:49 pm

Hey,

I'm moving back to Gentoo, after some time away, reason:
FEATURES="${FEATURES} getbinpkg binpkg-request-signature"
Been testing it out on a VM for a few weeks now, and this is a game changer! Like seriously, compiling is almost non existent or has been cut down by like 70%, if you stick to binpkg's :o

So I was in autopilot while installing Xorg etc..., and didn't even consider the idea of Xlibre?!

I've had a look at the overlay: Xlibre and this looks simple enough.

My question, does the:
Many packages can be built with optional X11 support by activating the global X USE flag (if not already activated by profile selection).
use flag also apply to Xlibre under Xorg.

Due to the fact it's " X11 support", and Xlibre is a fork, I'm almost certain it does, but I'd just like to be 100% because it's not mentioned anywhere in the Xlibre guide, and I can’t really find any confirmation, so this is a deduction based on how the X11 USE flag is generally handled in Gentoo.

Thanks!

I've just gone through the removal and upgrade, your forced to use both X and xorg globally or separately per pkg, and with any further dependency pkg's which require those flags.

I guess that answers my question. Please consider the post resolved.
