[S] Samsung G95NC 57" display w/ HP Zbook Fury 16 G10

Hi chaps,

This has me scratching my head at the moment. I have recently bought a HP ZBook Fury 16 G10 laptop and wanted to use it with my Samsung G95NV 57" display (7680x2160p sweetness). Both the display and the laptop both have HDMI 2.1 as standard.

Yet when I start up Wayland, it puts me into 3840x1080p. There is 3840x2160p but that looks terribly squashed and stretched. I've investigated and I think Wayland doesn't correctly parse the display's EDID parameters otherwise it'd be 7860x2160p.

Here's the EDID output (via edid-decode)

Code: Select all

Solved.

New "certified" HDMI 2.1 cable and I'm now seeing 7860x2160p sweetness.

The HDMI cable I used was supposedly 2.1 but it never was. I think it was definitely HDMI 2.0.
Cheers,
Alex.
