Why is setlogcons utility from sys-apps/kbd not installed

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

Why is setlogcons utility from sys-apps/kbd not installed

The sys-apps/kbd provides the useful setlogcons utility. However, on my system, where sys-apps/kbd is installed, setlogcons is not. (I have seen that it is also available as part of busybox, but I have no other reason to install busybox, so I would prefer to use the kbd utility.)

Does anybody know why this is the case?

I am not familiar with this package, so my answer is based solely on what I was able to learn by spending a few minutes examining the source after I read your post.

Per src/Makefile.am, setlogcons is guarded by OPTIONAL_PROGS. Per configure.ac, OPTIONAL_PROGS is enabled by passing --enable-optional-progs to configure, and will default to no if unset. I see nothing in the Gentoo ebuild that would pass this flag, so Gentoo gets the default of no, and you do not get setlogcons.

Thanks!

I've requested the optional programs are also compiled in the future < https://bugs.gentoo.org/969487 >.
